PURPOSE OF TEST

Identification of motile Trichomonad organisms and “clue cells” associated with bacterial vaginosis. Trichomonas vaginalis accounts for 10-30% and bacterial vaginosis for 35-50% of all vaginitis cases. Leukocytes and yeast buds or hyphae can also be detected by saline wet mount. The KOH wet mount is used for the direct microscopic identification of yeast and pseudohyphae in vaginal secretions.
